Let me show you how you can save money by either buying a new energy-efficient home or retrofitting your existing home to be more GREEN.

| ENERGY   READ MORE Our home was built in 1983 and had several energy problems that most pre-existing homes have. In our first year of ownership we used 37,026 KwH of electricity in our home. By 2008 we had reduced that to 27,468 Kwh. We removed over 9,000 KwH from our annual electrical needs. In 2009 we went down to 21,677.

Our usage of Natural Gas has held steady even after we changed our furnace to a more energy efficent model so I want to investigate other options.
AUTOS   READ MORE
I drive a 2007 Toyota Prius and I absolutely love it. My best mileage was 53 mpg from Dallas to Houston. We travelled from Dallas to Ohio for $65 of gas in 2008. I usually get 43 to 46 mpg on each tank of gas. But there a lots of fuel efficient cars.
RECYCLING   READ MORE Our city allows us to recycle plastics, metals, glass and paper. We keep recycling bins at our home and offices. But that's not the only way to help. It's estimated that for every one bag of recycling items we put out on our curb, that 80 bags of waste were created in the manufacturing of those products. We have to reduce as well as recycle. |
| . | WATER   READ MORE Like all home owners we get charged by our city for the water we use. We have a sprinkler system for our yard, a pool, and a hot tub. To save on water we have installed a water reclaimation system which means we have put gutters on our home connected to water barrels and tanks. We have the ability to store 1120 gallons of rain water which we then use in our yard, our garden and our pool.
ORGANICS   READ MORE My partner, Warren, is an organic gardener. He currently has a 4 x 40 foot raised bed organic garden in our back yard where he grows Tomatoes, Onions, Garlic, Peppers, Lettuces, Peas, Cabbage, Potatoes, Beans, Okra, Carrots, Strawberries, Watermelon & Cantaloupe.
Now that he has proven he can be successful at gardening, he has decided to expand. We purchased a vacant lot in Denton (about 20 minutes north) where he has nearly half an acre to till and farm. |
