Men and Women

Dick moved from
his seat
to the empty
bar stool
on my right
I’m going to talk
to Wanda for awhile
he said
a copy of my book
he bought
an hour earlier
lay squarely in front
of him
he asked looking
at the cover
photo where
my dad had worked
I told him
what little
firsthand
I could
and this segued
into
war stories
and
rum with
twist of lime
philosophy
no matter why
or what we did
at twenty
men were studs
women sluts
and it’s a good
night when
men and women
can agree
and
I liked that
he didn’t use
the book
for a coaster.
