Teddy Bear Musings
by Diane Webster

Teddy bear sits
in the overstuffed chair
in the therapist’s waiting room
keeping company
each hourly client
waiting to enter the inner room,
the safe room where all is okay
until the door opens,
and the bear waves goodbye
or hello depending on
coming or going or noticed
that sometimes it leans toward
the wall, its ears perked
to hear private thoughts, voices
through paint, plaster and studs,
but the bear remains mute,
smiling its own musings.
