I dropped my poison ring in your car
While I rolled it in my palm
Like I always do when I'm bored.
But when I stuck my finger in between
Your seat and mine
It had already worked it's way down beyond my reach.
You said you'd find it later,
But the clasp was broken,
And the stone was scratched.
I told you to forget it,
To leave it in the car with everything else
You made me lose:
My heart, my fear of men, my emptiness,
That are all still hidden
In the deepest reaches of an Oldsmobile,
With seats perfectly molded to the human shape,
And a picture of Jesus watching us
From the dashboard.
