First cut white silk
into a few pieces and
stitch them together
into the shape
of a kimono, then
sketch a sprig of
plum blossoms on it
and paints it over
with a brush
dipped in red ink,
then steam, dry and
steam again the fabric,
soak and wash it,
dry, baste and sew it.
Now there she is--
smiling shyly
in a red kimono,
her clogs clattering
on the path leading
to a garden surrounded
with dense bamboo.
