Long Distance
by Paul McCormick

The phone I used to call you from
Can not reach you any more.
I put a quarter in the slot
And pretend I'm late for dinner,
But there is no dinner waiting
In the empty house that's ringing,
Just this dead end booth and me
Calling evening to the weeds.
